Black Barn was opened in March 2013. The building was the premises for a large farm machinery business and the size although daunting allowed a far greater range of home style living to be displayed.
My partner Graeme and I had travelled to Europe and to New York over 35 times in the past 5 years.
We felt the US lifestyle interiors were a warm and comfortable fit for New Zealanders and added to the eclectic and quirky tastes of my partner and I. We made the decision to open Black Barn.
Our feeling was that existing interior stores ignored more masculine tastes and style. Our aim was to create a store that was appealing to both men and women. A place in which they felt comfortable to wander and buy.
Our key products have been chosen to exude a welcoming warmth, with little interest in minimalism.
