Cobblestones Museum is located in Greytown on the original site of the stables operated by Cobb & Co and the Hastwells to provide a mail and passenger service between Wellington and the Wairarapa from 1866.
The Museum's name comes from the well-preserved cobblestone courtyard beside the entrance building and inside the Hastwell Stables.
Cobblestones Museum is very special with it's beautiful park like village setting which includes 6 listed heritage buildings including Wairarapa's first public hospital, first Methodist Church, a colonial cottage, Mangapakeha School, The Hastwell Stables and the Donald Woolshed.
Cobblestones Museum gives people a real glimpse into what life may have been like in rural New Zealand in the 1860's.
The New Exhibition Building has some of the Wairarapa’s most precious historical and cultural treasures and tell enticing stories of life in rural Wairarapa with a particular emphasis on Greytown.
Some of the objects featured in the exhibition include a butterfly gig manufactured by Waggs in Masterton and the Deller Butchers horse drawn cart. George Deller was a prominent Carterton citizen being Mayor of the town from 1892 to 1901.
